The brief
A Metro Manila pet shop — supplies and live companions — with no real store online. It needed more than a catalogue: a shop that takes orders, in the two languages its customers actually speak, and settles the way Manila actually pays.
What we built
- A full bilingual (English + Tagalog) storefront — 11 categories and 60+ products, from food and grooming to live pets, with native Aspin and Puspin companions featured.
- Browse, cart and an order-form checkout tuned to local habits: GCash, Maya or bank transfer, staff-confirmed — no card processor required, no COD.
- A staff admin console: products and SKUs, cost price and margin, orders, and private payment-proof review.
- Google sign-in for staff, session and CSRF protection on every form, and Animal Welfare Act disclosures for the live-pet side.
Styling
A warm cream ground, a deep "trust" green and a coral accent — Bricolage Grotesque headlines over Inter. Friendly and unmistakably local: a neighbourhood shop, not a generic SaaS gradient.
Build
Node + Express with server-rendered EJS, a single content layer driving both languages. Postgres on Neon in production with a zero-setup in-process database in dev; payment proofs kept private in Cloudflare R2; deployed on Render behind Cloudflare. Fast, self-contained, and honest about what it does.
Outcome
A shop that never closes: customers browse and order in the language they read and pay the way they already pay, while staff price, stock and fulfil from one dashboard.
